Location

Burton In Lonsdale, Ingleton 3 miles; Kirkby Lonsdale 5 miles.

The pretty village of Burton in Lonsdale is tucked into the hillside above the lovely River Greta. Its impressive 19th Century church spire is visible from miles around and evidence of Burton Castle can still be seen nearby. In the 18th and 19th Centuries, the village was renowned for its 13 potteries, which formed a vital part of local life. Two potteries, which welcome visitors, still continue the tradition in the nearby villages of Bentham and Ingleton. Burton in Lonsdale offers a shop with a post office counter, and also a welcoming pub. There are several ‘undiscovered’ quiet walks around the village and more popular walks such as the Three Peaks and Ingleton Waterfalls Walk within easy reach. Places of interest close by include Kirkby Lonsdale, Ingleton and Settle, while this is also an ideal base for exploring the Dales, the Lake District and the Forest of Bowland.

    June 2023.
We stayed at Woodland barn for two relaxing weeks. The weather was perfect! The barn is an idyllic setting which is superb for dogs and people. Very well equipped and comfortable. Brilliant to be able to get down to the river very nearby and the grounds themselves are extensive and secure for your dog. Great base, my husband did lots of great walks and cycle outings. We will return.πŸ™‚ Thanks Anne.

      Thank you Rose and Andy.
You were blessed with superb weather, which was wonderful. So much to do and see so close if you want to go exploring.
If not just enjoy peace and quiet. The birds are pretty amazing.
We seemed to have ticked a few boxes for you, it will be a pleasure to have you return.
      Anne.

I’ve stayed at both The Barn and The Lodge over the past few years, either on my own with my dogs, or on various breaks with family and friends. I recently booked all 3 cottages for a BIG family get together. There were 11 adults, a baby and 4 dogs. Four generations hanging out together – it was great! Instead of all being in one house, we had the flexibility of being able to spend time in our individual family groups or to all hang out together in The Barn, the hub of our stay, and which was more than big enough to hold everyone (including us all eating together in the evening). The Cottage is the only one myself and my (adult) daughter haven’t stayed in ourselves, but on the journey home she was saying how she loved its quirkiness and how deceptively large it was – and how she wants to stay in this one β€˜next time’. The location is beautiful – peaceful and secluded – but also close enough to places such as the Lake District for heading to on days out. The grounds offer bags of space, which is a must for anyone with dogs. (The most we have taken so far has been 7 bearded collies). An existing walled off area is in the process of being transformed into a separate enclosed garden which will only enhance the place further, and add to the long list of why I love this place so much. Try it. You won’t be disappointed πŸ™‚

Recently stayed at the Barn for the 3rd time. Another wonderful holiday in absolutely top class facilities. cannot recommend these properties highly enough. Wonderful location and setting. Safe and secure. Equipment and cleanliness are second to none – and we have stopped in a lot of cottages over the years! The owner is so helpful and welcoming. We do not have a dog, but this must be a doggie paradise! So relaxing on the patio sitting by the lovely river. Superb!!

We’ve just come back from a week in the barn. Superb accommodation. Everything you could possibly need. Our 3 dogs, Furby, Betty & Fudge loved the riverside terrace where they spent most of the week lounging around in the sun. A beautiful spot. So peaceful, with the river Greta running by. Fantastic place to see birds. Heron, Kingfisher, Dipper, Wagtail, & at dusk the bats come out too. The open plan layout is absolutely brilliant & there is so much space. I didn’t want to leave. I could have easily spent another week there. Thanks so much Anne for such a fantastic holiday. Your hospitality is second to none. We will defintely be back. X x X

Thank you for the stunning accommodation set in a beautiful, serene environment. Carter our beagle thoroughly enjoyed his freedom to play in the extensive garden, and the walks in the nearby woods. Our grandson William (aged 3) had a lovely time and was safe on the patio area to play. This was also a lovely place to sit of an evening and watch the river.
We felt welcomed from the start to the end of our short stay. It was just not long enough. We look forward to returning again next year. You have created a wonderful place that is relaxing and inviting.
We have bored our friends on our return home as we cannot stop telling them about our break and how fantastic everything was (and we will continue to do so) Continue to weave the magic.

    • Anne Peckover August 31, 2015

Thanks Caroline and Kevin, It was great to meet you all and so pleased you enjoyed the break and the property. Comments like yours make it all worth while, putting a smile on my face.

My wife, daughter and I with our Border Terrier Charlie just had our second ‘New Year’ week break at this fabulous barn on the River Greta. We never tire of the wonderful, relaxing view. There are open grounds and a woods adjacent for Charlie to play and he loves to finish with a swim just behind the barn in the river. The open plan ground floor living and dining area makes for a great family break. My two sons and their partners joined us for three days and there was plenty of room for everyone. The large kitchen is ideal for a big family get-together. The highlight of the week was sledding down the local frost covered hills followed by coffee and whiskey on the patio and deck over the river and a folk music sing-song with guitars, mandolin and ukelele! Charlie loved having all the family together again! We plan to return every year and hopefully another week during the summer! Anne Peckover, you have a fantastic place here, well done!
