The cottage is approached along a shared private drive and a particular feature is the very pleasant sun room where guests can relax and watch the abundant wildlife. A lovely rural retreat for those seeking a peaceful holiday in beautiful countryside.

Location

Burton In Lonsdale, Ingleton 3 miles; Kirkby Lonsdale 5 miles.

The pretty village of Burton in Lonsdale is tucked into the hillside above the lovely River Greta. Its impressive 19th Century church spire is visible from miles around and evidence of Burton Castle can still be seen nearby. In the 18th and 19th Centuries, the village was renowned for its 13 potteries, which formed a vital part of local life. Two potteries, which welcome visitors, still continue the tradition in the nearby villages of Bentham and Ingleton. Burton in Lonsdale offers a shop with a post office counter, and also a welcoming pub. There are several ‘undiscovered’ quiet walks around the village and more popular walks such as the Three Peaks and Ingleton Waterfalls Walk within easy reach. Places of interest close by include Kirkby Lonsdale, Ingleton and Settle, while this is also an ideal base for exploring the Dales, the Lake District and the Forest of Bowland.

Lovely 3 day break spent in the lovely little cottage. The cottage had absolutely everything we could’ve needed. The grounds were superb and thoroughly enjoyed by our collie. We went in the woods surrounding and used the cottage as our base to visit different places. Absolutely lovely& Anne was extremely helpful with anything we needed.

    • Anne Peckover September 25, 2023

Thank you Lois, it’s great space for dogs and owners. Plenty to do further afield exploring.

We all had an amazing three day break ! We absolutely loved our staying in the Lodge. The cottage is so beautiful and very well equipped. Apart from a short walk up to the village shop, we spent all our time relaxing in the immaculate grounds . The only problem we had was to get our dog Ted to leave. He stood at the lodge door and refused to get in the car! Thank you so much Anne for our welcome gift that was so kind of you . We will definitely be returning soon . Xx

    • Anne Peckover May 30, 2023

We enjoyed a lovely few nights in the woodland lodge, a perfect first little holiday with our 5 month old daughter. On arrival we received a warm welcome from Anne and a tour of the lodge and grounds. Both the large garden areas and greta wood were brilliant for walking and playing with our dog. We saw lots of wildlife including squirrels, voles and many different types of birds just from the sun room window. Our trips out included a visit to Leighton moss RSPB reserve and Dalton craggs. The local community run shop had lovely staff and everything you could want. The lodge was clean and had everything we needed. We will most certainly be back in the future Thank you Anne! Katy, Dwayne, Agnes and Brock the collie.

    • Anne Peckover May 24, 2023

Thank you Martindale family, it was my pleasure.
The community shop is fabulous, great local produce at reasonable prices. We are so lucky to have this facility in this day and age. Run completely by volunteers. Lovely if you to support them.

Hope to see you all in the future. Anne

Had a lovely week away with Willow the Saluki x. Hubby could not make it but the location was a wonderful place for Willow and I to unwind and I did not feel at all lonely on our own. The Lodge was very clean and tidy and the conservatory was an added bonus to sit and relax and enjoy the surroundings. Willow enjoyed squirrel watching and the freedom to explore and do zoomies in the secure grounds. A surprise bottle of wine in the fridge was welcome and made for perfect evenings in front of the log fire. We did not want to leave. Will definitely return with Hubby so he can see for himself rather than the facetime walkthrough 😀. Thank you Anne for the wine and biscuits xxx

    • Anne Peckover February 19, 2023

Thank you Catherine, pleased you both had a great time.
It does make it so worthwhile when guests have the best time and leave a review.
      Keeps me focused. Xx

We have just got home from a 4 night stay in the Lodge. It was a last minute booking and couldn’t have asked for more. On arrival, finding a box of chocolates and bottle of wine waiting for us was a very unexpected but much appreciated gift. The Lodge was spotlessly clean and very welcoming for both of us and our 2 dogs and was everything we needed for our much needed break. The large garden area was well kept and the walks in the area were amazing. Already looking to book again for next year so we can explore further. Sorry we didn’t get to meet you this time Anne, hopefully we will get to say hello next time.

    • Anne Peckover September 24, 2020

Thank you Sam, so pleased you enjoyed the break. I would love to welcome you back and meet you all. It’s been a trying time for everyone of us at the moment and it’s really nice to know I can offer a little bit of peace for guests in a beautiful area . 😁😁

  13. Jon Guite December 19, 2018

We have just spent my birthday weekend at the woodland lodge and have to say it was very nice! Although the weather wasn’t so kind to us the house was a great place to shelter and keep cosy!
When we did get out with our husky willow there was a nice walk on our doorstep through the woods and along the river.
We would have loved to stay longer to do a bit more exploring and we plan to come back in the summer to do just that!
Thanks again for the hospitality and great communication Anne. I hope to get to meet you on our next visit.

    • Anne Peckover December 19, 2018

Yes the weather was bad. Glad to hear you were nice and cosy and enjoyed your stay.

  21. Ashleigh July 22, 2015

We’ve just come back from a 3 night/4 day stay at woodland river cottages in the lodge. We took our 3 dogs who absolutely loved the grounds/large great garden right on the doorstep. Anne went above and beyond with her hospitality and made our stay personal by decorating the lodge with a banner, balloons and bought a cake and card for my partners birthday which was fab. The place is peaceful and quaint and everything’s within close proximity for activities- including ingleton waterfalls. We really enjoyed our time here (dogs miss it already) and we’re looking at coming back and have recommended to family already.
Thanks again Anne. An extra special thanks from Max the pug, Pepsi and Ollie x
